Bob Brock

President and Co-Founder

bob-brockWith more than 35 years’ experience in higher education marketing, Bob is one of the nation’s most respected brand marketing and management consultants. Bob was a member of the CASE Industry Advisory Council and a faculty member for the international Academy for Educational Development (AED).  He is a frequent keynote speaker on brand marketing and related issues for businesses, non-profits, and organizations throughout the world. Early in his career, he served in communications and marketing positions at Washington University in St. Louis, Rutgers University, the University of Denver, and Metropolitan State University of Denver. In 1997, he co-founded Educational Marketing Group, and has provided strategic counsel to college, university, and non-profit clients globally. Bob and his co-founding partner, Marlene Brock, have provided marketing services and counsel for institutions throughout North America.

Marlene Brock

Executive Vice President and Co-Founder

Marlene has 30 years of organizational management and brand development experience. In addition to her expertise in higher education, Marlene has worked in the public sector, retailing, the television industry, and corporate real estate. She has served in local government as well as for international corporations such as United Artists and Siemens Corp. She has provided positioning and brand platform development services, strategic planning, and creative strategies for dozens of colleges and universities. Her ability to develop consensus-based brand platforms is unmatched. Following a positioning exercise at Washington State University, then-president Dr. V. Lane Rawlins noted, “This was a remarkable milestone in the history of the university – the most productive strategy session I’ve ever been part of.” Dr. Lloyd Benjamin, former president of Indiana State University, said of a positioning retreat, “It’s the first time in my tenure that I’ve ever seen this group [executive administration] agree on anything.” Marlene has facilitated positioning for colleges and universities across North America, and conducts professional training on positioning, strategic planning, brand architecture, and related topics.

Ineke Caycedo

Senior Brand Strategist

Ineke has been senior brand strategist at EMG for eight years and specializes in helping clients build innovative and powerful creative frameworks and develop marketing strategies and tactics that achieve bottom-line return on investment. She has more than 17 years’ experience in communications, brand development, and marketing and is a nationally recognized expert in Web 2.0 marketing, generational marketing, new media tactics, and social networks. She has worked in higher education, foundation, and corporate settings. She has developed creative campaigns for Virginia Tech, Washington State University, Hanover College, Clarkson University, Old Dominion University, University of Southern Maine, Butler University, University of Michigan-Flint, Shenandoah University, and others. These campaigns have resulted in consistent and differentiating brand identities for client institutions and have achieved exceptional, documented results in recruitment, research funding, private fundraising, and image enhancement. She speaks to professional organizations across the country on generational and new media marketing, and serves as a faculty member of EMG’s KnowledgeBuilders and Brand Manager’s Summit, sharing her insights and tips about leveraging new media channels to reach to youth and other audiences. She is also a regular contributor to the Brand Bounce (blog).

Jim Maraviglia

Senior Recruitment and CRM Consultant

James Maraviglia has been actively involved in enrollment management for the past 38 years, serving as Assistant Vice President for Admissions, Recruitment and Financial Aid at Cal Poly from 2002 – 2010; and most recently, as Associate Vice Provost for Marketing and Enrollment Development. Prior to his tenure at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) beginning in 1991, Maraviglia was the Director of Admissions at Central Washington University, and also worked at Triton Community College and Chicago State University. Maraviglia started his career in admissions as a student intern at Elmhurst College in 1974.

Jim helped launch the first electronic application, electronic view book, and CD-ROM prospectus; he was one of the earliest innovators of electronic customer relations support systems. In addition, he has authored a number of papers on reengineering the workplace through performance management and process innovations, defining and adopting enrollment management strategies and building relationships with different constituencies using today’s toolsets. Maraviglia’s leadership behind the vision and development of various admissions and recruitment technologies earned him an INNOVATOR award from Campus Technology in 2005. He also has won CSU Quality Improvement awards for innovative practice for his development of a CRM and a fully automated comprehensive admission review. Maraviglia was named as an Innovator consults with a number of institutions interested in implementing similar solutions.

Kelly Giles

Integrated Marketing Specialist

kelly-bioKelly brings a mix of experience in traditional marketing, social media, internet, sponsorships, promotions, and inbound marketing. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a marketing degree and a minor in international business. While earning her degree, she gained extensive experience in integrated marketing and project management techniques, and continued her work in media and digital marketing in broadcast TV. Since joining EMG in 2015, her expertise in each piece of the tactical marketing mix comes together to create high visibility integrated campaigns and bottom-line results for clients. She provides brand-building campaign management while continually tracking and optimizing campaign performance in real time. Kelly is also Google AdWords certified.

Colleen McCormack

Social Media Marketing and Community Building

ColleenColleen is Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Specialist. She graduated from Quincy University with a degree in Communications-Broadcasting, and minors in Business and Theater. Her experience with both video and news production builds on her expertise in social media strategies and community-building tactics. She provides social media content development and tactical execution plans that coordinate and integrate with traditional channels and platforms to provide clients with optimal performance in emerging digital marketing arenas and outstanding community building capacity.

Travis Brock

Director of Business Development

Travis has more than 11 years of marketing, communications, and research experience in the higher education arena. He currently writes and edits our blog and eNewsletter, EMG’s Brand Bounce, as well as updates and manages EMG’s interactive social media presence. As EMG research assistant and then as manager of research, he developed and implemented marketing research and brand analyses for more than 20 colleges and universities throughout North America. Methodologies have included secondary research, online qualitative studies, web analyses, quantitative surveys, and focus groups. He graduated with honors from the University of New Mexico with a BBA in Marketing and an MBA in Policy and Planning, and has received numerous honors for his academic achievements. Travis has also worked in a leadership capacity in customer service, creative development, and research in a variety of sectors including merchandising, food service, and education.


Samantha Sullivan

Art Director

SamanthaSamantha is the Art Director at Educational Marketing Group, Inc. and has been working in the graphic design field since 2010.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications Design and a minor in Communication from Purdue University. Her work with small businesses and Fortune 500 clients has resulted in effective and award winning designs. In all her work, Samantha seeks to partner with clients to not only meet their design and communication needs, but also provide solutions with new ideas, hard work, and creative problem solving.

Angela Brennan

Marketing Management Analyst

Angela, a Marketing Management Analyst who implements qualitative and quantitative survey research projects for EMG clients, has designed insightful online surveys and telephone polling initiatives for numerous institutions of higher education. Recent projects include quantitative studies for Colorado State University System, University of Nebraska System, Virginia Tech, Washington State University System, the University of Michigan-Flint, Indiana State University, and Shenandoah University. She has also conducted comprehensive competitor and marketplace analytical studies for MIT, Clarkson University, University of Southern Maine, Webster University, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Fort Hays State University, Delta State University, Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, and many others. She has also designed and implemented both online and on-site qualitative research projects for a number of colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, and institutions. Angela, a graduate of Regis University, served as an analyst for Arrow Electronics, a business-to-business computer and high-tech firm, for seven years prior to joining EMG. Regardless of the research methodology, her focus and talent is carefully focused on producing reliable, actionable, and cost-efficient data to guide on-the-ground marketing tactics. Angela is also Google AdWords and Analytics certified.

Nancy Haven

Director of Media

With more than 22 years in advertising and media, Nancy has experienced every side of the advertising industry, setting her apart from the stereotypical numbers cruncher. Her depth of expertise comes from experience as Senior Vice President and Media Director for Barnhart Advertising and a similar position at Karsh & Hagan, Denver’s largest agency. She supervises a staff of eight analysts and specialists, has served as EMG’s Director of Media since 2001. Her team has experience across all traditional and emerging media platforms, with full access to Nielson, Arbitron, and other media tracking agencies on behalf of client institutions. Nancy and has conducted research, media planning, and buying for clients such as Washington State University, Indiana State University, Hanover College, Adams State College, and others. Nancy serves on the Board of Directors for the Denver Advertising Foundation, which named her Advertising Professional of the Year in 2001. She holds degrees in Business and Retail Merchandising from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine and has also studied Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts.

David Fuller

Executive Producer

Working for advertising agencies, direct clients, and broadcast networks since age 18, David’s background has given him a deep understanding of the art of strategic communication and the craft of film making for television. He was executive producer of an award-winning 5-year anti-smoking TV campaign, a multi-platform campaign for prevention of teen alcohol abuse, and a television-radio campaign raising awareness of substance abuse among parents. His work with the Jackson Laboratory, one of the foremost genetics labs in the world, has produced a series of films communicating the Lab’s research to support awareness and fundraising efforts. His broad client roster has included University of Maine, Old Dominion University, University of Southern Maine, Husson University, OSRAM SYLVANIA, Sylvania Automotive, Maine Medical Center, L.L.Bean, Poland Spring Water, Partnership for Better Health, California Nutrition Network, Bermuda Ministry of Tourism, DuPont Corian, Cole Haan Shoes, and The Learning Channel (TLC)

Rick Thompson


Rick has over 23 years experience in film production. In addition to significant expertise in concept development, set direction, camera work, and editing, he has extensive experience in both the commercial and documentary film arenas. Since beginning Richmarc Production, a strategic partner of EMG, in 1977, Rick has worked on hundreds of productions for clients like Ford, Eli Lilly, General Motors, Nike, Eaton Corp, Ball Corp, Tribune Broadcasting, and the U.S. Marine Corps, and network content for History Channel, 60 Minutes, Frontline PBS, National Geographic, ESPN, CBS, and HBO Sports. He has been involved in the production of many documentaries aired on broadcast and cable television, including First Invasion: The War of 1812, In a Child’s Best Interest, Branson, and, 80 Acres of Hell. Rick has extensive experience in the higher education marketplace, having produced award winning TV campaigns and recruitment videos for Indiana State University, Ball State University, Indiana University, the University of Toledo, and Purdue University, among others.

Jeremy Kennedy

Senior Web Programmer

Jeremy has been involved in developing web sites since the beginning of the commercial internet. He has the programming skills to accomplish almost anything you can do via the internet. Above all, he has the intangible gift of “making it happen”.

He has been with EMG since 2011 and has been the cheif authority and enabler of all technology since that point. He has brought tremendous insight and a value to each project we’ve created with his unique ability to not only slash through code challenges like a ninja does through fruit, but his sincere interest and passion to rely on tested technologies and explore integrating the latest ones.
