Thanks for a Great 2011

Thank you to all our readers and followers for a great 2011.

Thank you to all the email subscribers, RSS’ers, participators, and commenters. A big thanks to all the guest bloggers (click here to read them) who took time out of their busy days to share their higher ed marketing experiences with us this year.

We had a lot of fun writing on higher ed branding, social media, marketing, strategy, tactics, and so much more this year. So much has happened and I am sure more will happen in the year 2012!

As I have done for the last couple years, here is a quick recap of 2011′s best blog posts.

5) Recognize Me Yet?: A fun game I (Travis) created in September 2011. How recognizable are the college and university logos? The game got quite a few participants. See if you can guess the school before you see the answers. The blog then begs the question, how recognizable is your logo?

4) Marketing Budget Benchmarks: In January 2011, Bob took on the 2008 depression and the implications it left on higher ed marketing budgets. The blog summarizes the problem with how marketing budgets are created and how they should be developed in the future, especially against budget benchmarks in higher ed.

3) Slaying the Saying: A guest blog by Kevin Grout of Brock University back in February 2011. He and his team were tasked with creating a video. They tackled an old cliché that has haunted Brock University for some time. A great recap and inspiring way to turn a negative into a positive.

2) A Better Reality: Last March, Bob provided examples into the use of intriguing, invigorating, and inspiring imagery in publications. At the bottom he also provides tips for creating great campaign images.

1) Right Time for an Undercover Chancellor: This blog by me (Travis), in April, delves into the marketing implications of the appearance of University of California Riverside’s Chancellor on the show “Undercover Boss.” There were a lot of comments, both in support and in defense of the UCR’s beloved Chancellor. What are your thoughts?
There you have it, a quick wrapup of 2011 on the Brand Manager’s Notebook. We will continue to post some great blogs about what is going on the world of marketing and higher ed as we trek into 2012. Be sure to stay tuned!

From Bob, Ineke, Steve, myself and the rest of the EMG Team, we wish everyone the happiest and safest of holidays, Happy New Years and Merry Marketing!

Below is EMG’s holiday video message. Enjoy!
