Type A’s and To-Do Lists

Angela Brennan
VP, Web Development

I’m a Type A personality. I need to have organization and have a clear understanding of the tasks for not only myself but also for my team. I rely on task lists or, as some might say they are my security blanket. And I am always searching for the next best online GTD (Get Things Done) app. I have tried several different options out there, both free and somewhat costly, and I have come up short. It isn’t as if I ask a whole lot:

  1. cheap (free is even better),
  2. multi-platform (Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, web),
  3. has recurring tasks,
  4. most importantly has team collaboration.

Most brand managers, I’m assuming, can relate to having so many different projects and people to manage. Some are probably using Outlook to track their own tasks, but that can fall short with your team because you might have some people that don’t have, or don’t prefer, Outlook. And some might already be using an online tool but wonder if there is something that better meets their needs.

After searching numerous possibilities, I have come up with a shortlist of task management tools that meet my four criteria above and compared several other important criteria. So, if you find yourself needing a tool to help you manage tasks within your team too, some of these might help (in alphabetical order):

Even after reviewing the apps above, it is important to point out that not everyone is a Type A personality like myself. And I can’t make everyone use a task manager. In other words, these apps are only as useful as the people using them. If everyone is on board then these can be powerful and efficient tools.
